What You can Learn from a Pretzel

You are probably asking yourself, “What can I possibly learn from a Pretzel?”

“What in the world can an age-old snack food teach me?”

If you have a bag of pretzels on hand, go ahead and grab the bag and snack on them as you read this. If not, I’m sure you will still be able to understand.

Allow me to explain.

One day I picked up a pretzel and began to think how I can relate it to life. After a short time of thinking, it hit me!

If you are fortunate enough to have a bag of pretzels with you, go ahead and hold one up with your hand. This is where it gets interesting:

The PRETZEL itself represents YOU. You will also notice the grains of salt on each pretzel. Some have more salt than others, but all are accompanied by salt. The SALT represents the POSITIVES and NEGATIVES in life. From anything physical, emotional, or spiritual, there are ups and downs to everything we experience in life.

The grains of salt that stick to the pretzel (Remember the pretzel represents you) are the positives in life. Positive relationships with family, friends, co-workers, positive thoughts, and positive actions to name a few. The grains of salt that fall off in the bag are the negative influences in life, the ones that we want to eliminate in order to live a happy, fulfilling life.

You may even pick some of the grains of salt off the pretzel itself, which is great! Not all negative influences are just going to disappear on their own; sometimes we must identify these undesirable aspects and shed them from our lives. Of course, it is not as easy as picking a grain of salt off a pretzel, but the important thing is to recognize that negative does exist. Once you recognize it, then it is up to you to replace it with something positive.

Also, once you finish your bag of pretzels, you may notice there is plenty salt left at the bottom of the bag. There will always be plenty of salt left in the bag, just as there is always a surplus of negative thoughts and influences that try to distract us from achieving our goals in life.  What we must do with this salt is close the bag, crumple it up, and dispose of it in the trash. Leave it to be forgotten and never to be missed, for the destructive consequences that come along with negative thoughts and actions are not worth holding on to.

Our main focus in life: (What we can learn from a pretzel)

To allow only the positive grains of salt to stick with us, while any grains of salt that fail to stick with us throughout our journey of life are not losses; they are simply ways of eliminating extra weight that will do nothing but hold us back from achieving even our most simple goals in life.

So there you go! Hopefully every time you see a pretzel, you can now see it for more than a snack.

Try to think of something unordinary that you can relate to life. Let me know, and I look forward to seeing what you can come up with. Let your mind wander a little, and you will surprise yourself with what you may come up with. Just remember to always stay positive!

Think Positive. Live Positive.
